Barbara Jean (Casey) Banks, age 73, of Columbus, GA., and formerly of Bath Springs, TN., moved to her eternal home on Sunday, October 12th, 2025, at Henderson County Community Hospital. She was born on May 24th, 1952, the only daughter of the late Dorothy Helen and Elvin Lee Casey. She was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Casey.
Barbara was educated in the Decatur County School System. She graduated from Riverside High School in 1970. She was united in holy matrimony to her beloved husband, Robert Banks in 1991. She went on to join the United States Military, Army division on September 19, 1978, and retired September 30th, 2000. She attained the rank of Sergeant 1st class. During her Tour of Duty, she served in Desert Storm in Iraq. She was awarded the Meritorius Service Medal and the Southwest Asia Medal with 2 bronze service stars. She served as a Unit Supply Specialist and an Automated Logistical Specialist for 21 years and 8 months. Following retirement from active military service, she continued to work 24+ years as a civilian supply and logistic specialist at Fort Benning, GA., until July of 2025.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband Robert Banks of Columbus, GA; her loving daughter, Detrece Walker of Columbus, GA.; brothers, Dwight (Brenda) Casey of Lexington, TN., James (Roberta) Casey of Saltillo, TN., Jeffrey Casey of Nashville, TN., and Timothy Sanders of Lexington, TN.; foster brother, Franklin (Ronnie) Brasher of Bath Springs, TN., two step-daughters, Chakisha Byrd of Griffon, GA. and Cassie Banks of McDonald, GA.; grandsons, Jaquavious Walker, Rontavous Pope, and Quiadon Cummings; granddaughters, Tinsha Pope and Casey Byrd. She also leaves behind a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special friends, Vanessa Green, Beverly Gilliam, Margaret Elder, Charlotte Jack and Cheryl Clark.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 20th, 2025, from 9:00am until time of funeral service at 1:00pm, at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Bath Springs, TN. Burial will take place at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Parkers Crossroads, TN., on Tuesday, October 21st, 2025, at 1:30PM.
