Mr. Arnold was recognized for his skills in carpentry and other construction work. His work included building and renovating private homes and churches in West Tennessee, Michigan, and Illinois. He also worked on various public, including construction of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway and Leif Ericson elementary school in Chicago.
He was a 1952 graduate of Montgomery High School in Lexington. Vernell was an avid hunter, and enjoyed gardening and raising animals, including dogs, cows, and goats.
Vernell was preceded in death by his loving wife, Allie Mae Arnold; a son, Larry D. Arnold; and a daughter, Ella Marie Conway.
Survivors include his children: Diane (Tommy) Brown, Vernita (James) Smith; Terry D. Arnold, Theresa Sparks, and Jill Johnson; grandchildren, Pamela, Jason, Kenyatta (Robert), Jamont, Javina (Jared), Larissa, Tequila, Michelle, Tyson, Jennifer, Taryn, Jesse, Alisha (Kris), and Ali.
